27. September 2016 | categories: Hiking
It’s Saturday, August 27, 2016, so the weather forecast predicts fantastic weather, so I’m taking the first train to Göschenen and Andermatt. The journey continues by post bus to Hospental, where the ascent to the Gotthard Pass begins.
The path leads up to a plateau. After the plain, cows and their calves block the way. However, they will soon move on slowly again without me having to walk past them.
The hiking trail continues uphill so that the two bikers I meet push the bike. Meanwhile, I entered Ticino.
After three hours of ascent I reach the Gotthard pass.
After a fine Gotthardrösti, I hike on the other side towards Airolo. While I walk down the old pass road, an army of cyclists are fighting their way up the pass – probably a mountain race. When I see certain faces I prefer to walk on foot.
After about an hour I see Airolo for the first time, after two hours I reach the beautiful village of Ticino.
The next train takes me back to German-speaking Switzerland through the old Gotthard tunnel.
Tip: The hike takes about five hours and is also suitable for less experienced fit people. On a hot day you can swim on the Gotthard pass.
